Urgent and New Opportunity for Action on Wake Boats

Call your legislators about wake boat bill SB 1024

Here’s the latest February 13, 2026:

  • Earlier this week, we reached out encouraging you to contact your legislators about AB 1033 related to wakesurfing. We at Wisconsin’s Green Fire (WGF) oppose AB 1033.
  • Two new bills are now out as of yesterday afternoon:
  • Senate Bill 1025, which is very similar to AB 1033. It states just a 200-foot distance minimum, no depth requirement, and no explicit local control protection. (WGF opposes this bill, too.)
  • Senate Bill 1024, which we consider a good compromise bill. SB 1024 has a 500-foot minimum distance from shore, 20-foot depth, and protects local control. It also protects towns and officials against nuisance lawsuits through civil immunity.

Wisconsin’s Green Fire supports Senate Bill 1024 (SB 1024). Read more below about why we support SB 1024. Please consider contacting your legislators to share your views!

Keep in mind the bill numbers are very similar, so make sure you are clear on which bill you are referring to when you call. We anticipate there will be a Senate hearing for both SB 1024 and SB 1025 on February 19th, but we will work to keep you updated on the emerging details.
