County lake associations launch Shoreland Protection Legacy Initiative

The Vilas County Lakes and Rivers Association and the Langlade County Waterways Association have partnered with the Northwoods Land Trust in a Shoreland Protection Legacy Initiative to permanently conserve extensive stretches of privately-owned natural shoreline on lakes, rivers, ponds and streams. The expectation is that this program will be extended to Oneida County as well. The initiative applies mainly to properties with at least 500 feet of water frontage. Land trust staff members are available to meet with landowners to discuss the conservation options available for their specific situations. Permanently protecting natural shoreland is one of the best ways to preserve the waters of the Northwoods for future generations. The land trust offers a guide for landowners interested in protecting their properties.
